Law offices and AI: accuracy, not visibility

People ask AI for a law office’s address, the bar a lawyer is registered with, or the areas the office works in. The answer can contain an old address, the wrong bar or a lawyer who no longer works there. Because advertising is banned for lawyers in Türkiye, we work differently in this sector: our aim is not to promote the office but to make sure the information about it is correct.

Advertising ban: no visibility services
✳ Short answer

Türkiye’s Attorneys Act forbids lawyers from seeking work through any act or attempt that may amount to advertising. The bar associations’ regulation spells out what a law office website may contain and expressly forbids code, keywords, subdomains and URLs meant to push an office to the top of search results. So we don’t offer GEO, SEO or visibility services to the legal sector. Our work is limited to two things: making sure answers about the office contain no wrong information, and comparing the site with the list of permitted details.

Why do we work differently in this sector?

Under Article 55 of the Attorneys Act, lawyers may not seek work through any act or attempt that may amount to advertising; the rule extends to law offices and partnerships, and the Union of Turkish Bar Associations sets out how it applies[1]. Article 7 of the bar regulation, rewritten in 2024, draws detailed lines for online media[2]:

  • In site design, or in code that search engines can read, an office may not use code, keywords, subdomains or URLs meant to push it to the top of search results in order to win work, nor any similar technique (art. 7/e).
  • No actions may be taken online to promote content prepared by or about the lawyer; no advertising may be placed online (art. 7/e).
  • Putting out general, abstract material that anyone can access as a way of attracting clients is not allowed (art. 7/c).

Which information may a law office website contain?

Article 7/d of the regulation limits website content to a list[2]. In the accuracy audit we check whether this information is the same and current on the site, in map listings and in AI answers:

Permitted informationNote
The site owner’s name, surname, any academic title in law and photoNo titles other than attorney may be used (art. 6)
Names, surnames and academic titles of the other lawyers at the officeLawyers who left must be removed
Registered name of a partnership, or the office nameThe same spelling in every listing
TBB and bar registry numbers, start date in the profession, university, foreign languagesVerifiable facts
Office address, phone and fax, email and registered email addressThe details most often left outdated after a move
Information on the areas the office works inNot in a way that implies specialisation

What does the accuracy audit cover?

  1. 01

    Detect

Questions about the office by name are put to AI engines; the address, bar, lawyer list and contact details in the answers are recorded.

  2. 02

    Source

We find which site, directory or old page the wrong information comes from.

  3. 03

    Fix

Information on the office’s own site is limited to the fields the regulation lists and brought up to date; correction requests are prepared for external sources.

  4. 04

    Check

The same questions are asked again at intervals; what we measure is not ranking but the absence of wrong information.

Which requests do we decline?

  • Work to rank higher or stand out in search engines or AI answers.
  • Keyword-targeted pages, subdomains or page addresses.
  • Blog, guide or “general information” content aimed at obtaining work.
  • Client reviews, reference lists or stories of won cases.

Frequently asked questions

01Do you do GEO for our law office?

We don’t do GEO or SEO meant to increase visibility; the bar regulation expressly forbids techniques meant to push an office to the top of search results. Instead we find errors in answers generated about your office, fix them at the source and compare your site with the regulation’s list of permitted details.

02Can we add informative articles to our office website?

The regulation forbids putting out general, abstract material that anyone can access as a way of attracting clients. We don’t prepare such content; for your specific case we recommend asking your bar association.

03An AI tool shows our office’s old address. How does that get fixed?

An old address usually comes from a directory listing created before the move or from a map profile nobody updated. We find that record, prepare the step needed to bring it in line with the address on your site, and ask the same question again a few weeks later to confirm the fix.
