GEO for private education: accurate institution facts in pre-enrolment answers

A parent heading into enrolment season may ask an AI for “a private middle school in Kadıköy with strong foreign languages”, and a high-school student for “an exam-prep course with a weekend group”. The answer can be compiled from the institution’s own site, map listings, news and parent reviews. This file covers what we do so your institution appears in that answer with its official name and current facts.

✳ Short answer

GEO for private education is the work of getting your institution named with accurate facts in answers to parents’ and students’ pre-enrolment questions. The institution is presented everywhere with the name and official type on its licence; programmes, the fee announcement, enrolment steps and transport sit on separate, current pages; each campus has its own page and, where eligible, its own map listing; promotion follows the Ministry’s rules; and the same question set is measured monthly across 6 engines.

Which institution falls under which rules?

The official umbrella term in Türkiye is “private education institutions” (özel öğretim kurumları): Law No. 5580 on Private Education Institutions and the Ministry of National Education’s (MEB) regulation list the types one by one[1][2]. What people call a “course centre” maps to more than one official type:

Everyday nameOfficial typeSupervising ministry
Private school, “kolej”, kindergartenPrivate pre-school, primary, middle and secondary schoolsMinistry of National Education[1]
Exam prep for high-school students and graduatesPrivate tutoring course (özel öğretim kursu; teaches one subject group)Ministry of National Education[2]
Language, art, sport or vocational courseVarious courses: personal development, talent, vocational training and development coursesMinistry of National Education[2]
Homework and activity support for primary pupilsStudent activity centre (added in 2025)Ministry of National Education[2]
Academic and social support for middle-school pupilsSocial activity and development centre (added in 2024)Ministry of National Education[2]
Driving schoolMotor vehicle drivers’ courseMinistry of National Education[1]
Nursery, day-care (for comparison)Private nursery and day-care centre; not a private education institutionMinistry of Family and Social Services[3]

Student study centres (öğrenci etüt eğitim merkezleri), except those in the conversion programme, could operate until 1 July 2017; those not brought in line with one of the types in the Law by 29 July 2017 faced permanent closure[1]. So the “course” in a parent’s question and the type on the licence may not be the same thing; the official type is always confirmed from the institution’s licence. The MEB rules below apply to private education institutions under MEB, not to nurseries and day-care centres.

What do parents and students ask AI?

Question typeExampleWhat the answer relies on
Choice“Which private primary schools in Ataşehir focus on foreign languages?”Grade levels and programme
Comparison“Exam-prep courses with a weekend group?”Programme, group and schedule
Enrolment“When does enrolment open at [institution], and which documents are needed?”Enrolment process page
Fees“How much is [institution] this year?”The institution’s current fee announcement
Transport“Does [institution]’s school bus go through Kartal?”Bus routes and transport per campus

How should the institution name and campuses be written?

  • Under the MEB regulation, an institution uses only the name or abbreviation on its opening permit and business licence on signs, advertising, announcements and all transactions. Schools may include “kolej” in those documents and in their advertising[2].
  • Google Business Profile guidelines likewise ask that the business name match the real-world name used consistently on signage, the website and documents[4]. Writing the licensed name the same way on signage, the site and the map listing is a starting point consistent with both rules; Google’s naming rules are checked separately.
  • Each campus gets its own page with its address, grade levels and contact details; each location that meets Google’s criteria gets its own Business Profile.
  • A school founder who wants to license the school’s brand to others must have at least 5 schools, of the same or different levels, each active for at least 5 years, and may license up to three times the number of schools meeting that condition[2]. Each licensed school should be clearly shown as a separate institution on its pages and map listings.

Where should programme, fee and enrolment details live?

Some pages are required by regulation, not only useful for GEO. Private tutoring courses keep the programme samples approved by the Directorate General on display at the institution and continuously on their own website[2]. Institutions record fee announcements in MEBBİS, post a printout where parents can see it until the next announcement and, if they have a website, publish it there too[2].

  • Programme pages: for each programme or group, the target exam or level, duration, days and hours.
  • Fee announcement page: the same content and date as the current MEBBİS announcement. If last year’s announcement stays up, it can keep circulating in answers.
  • Enrolment process: dates, required documents, interview or placement steps.
  • Campus pages: address, grade levels, bus routes and transport.

In June 2025 Google announced it would phase out the Course Info rich result from search results and that this wouldn’t affect ranking[5]; the Course list feature is separate. Schema.org types such as School or EducationalOrganization can be used to describe the institution.

Which promotion rules apply?

Under Additional Article 4 of the regulation, a private education institution under MEB may not show students’ photos, names or results in its advertising and announcements. All promotional material carries a QR code leading to the institution’s details, and the same QR code is displayed at the entrance[2]. Article 7 of Law No. 5580 makes false or misleading advertising, and the use of student photos or details in advertising, subject to an administrative fine[1].

That also sets the limits of GEO work. Because promotional content on the institution’s own site may count as advertising, we don’t work with “our top-ranked students” lists; we work with verifiable facts such as programmes, campus facilities, the enrolment process and the fee announcement.

How does the Neural Visibility Loop work in private education?

  1. SCAN

    An enrolment-season question set

Grade-level, programme, fee, transport and enrolment questions; which institutions get named and which sites are cited, mapped before enrolment season.

  2. BUILD

    One name, the right type

The licensed name and official type written identically on the site, map listings and markup; campuses moved to their own pages and, where eligible, separate map listings; the QR code and fee-announcement page checked.

  3. WRITE

    Answers for the enrolment decision

Programme, enrolment, transport and campus pages; parent guides based on verifiable facts rather than results lists.

  4. MEASURE

    Measurement on the enrolment calendar

The same questions every month across 6 engines; in the months leading up to enrolment, wrong facts such as an old fee, an old programme or a closed campus are tracked separately.

Frequently asked questions

01Can’t we share our exam rankings on the site?

The MEB regulation bans student results in advertising and announcements[2]. Because promotional content on the institution’s site may count as advertising, we recommend reviewing such posts with your legal counsel. Our GEO work relies on verifiable facts, not results claims.

02Do we have to publish our fees on our website?

Under Article 54 of the regulation, institutions record the fee announcement in MEBBİS, post it at the institution and, if they have a website, publish it there too[2]. Keeping the website announcement identical to the current MEBBİS one gives a verifiable source for fee questions.

03Is there a difference between a nursery and a kindergarten?

Yes. A private kindergarten is a preschool under the Ministry of National Education[1]; private nurseries and day-care centres fall under a regulation of the Ministry of Family and Social Services[3]. Stating correctly on the site and map listing which one the institution is comes first in giving parents a correct answer.
